Playing Audio in a Classroom

Sounds can be music, speeches, noises or anything else that you want your students to hear. You can play music as they enter the classroom. You can play clips from songs as a teaching tool (maybe with lyrics printed out for them to comment on).

To play sounds in your classroom, you need to see what is installed in the room. Either your classroom has a built in sound system or it does not.

No Built-in Sound System

You will need to bring portable speakers and something to play the sounds on.

Portable speakers are available from the Media Center.

The speakers will hook up to the headphone jack of your computer or iPod or other source.

You can also take out a portable tape player, which is available at the Library's Circulation Desk.

Built-in Sound System

If there is a sound system in the room, there are two ways to play audio in your classroom. Not all rooms will have all possibilities.

  1. Instructions should be located near the CD/DVD player (or on the media closet door). The steps are:
  2. Turn on the system at the top right of the equipment stack
  3. Turn on the local sound at the bottom right of the equipment stack
  4. Turn on the CD/DVD player
  5. Switch the input for the system to CD/DVD player
  6. Adjust the volume of the system as desired

These panels are typical in the rooms in Pālanakila and ‘Ākoakoa. The cable can be plugged in to any equipment that has a plug for headphones (such as your computer or an iPod).

  1. Instructions for the sound system should be located on the media closet door). The steps are:
  2. Turn on the system at the top right of the equipment stack
  3. Turn on the local sound at the bottom right of the equipment stack
  4. Plug in your sound source (your computer, an iPod, or whatever) to the "Comptuer Audio" plug on the side panel
  5. Using either the wall controller or the remote controller, switch the input for the system to CD/DVD player
  6. Using either the wall controller or the remote controller, adjust the volume of the system as desired

Note: if there is a place to plug in an RJ-45 cable but no cable, a cable can be borrowed from the Media Center.
