Phantom of the Opera

“Phantom of the Opera” opens at Paliku Sept. 9th

Palikū Theatre at Windward Community College announces the casting of our fall musical, the blockbuster Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Phantom of the Opera, directed by Ron Bright, with performances starting September 9th.  Shows will be Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm, with Sunday matinees starting at 4:00 pm.  Phantom of the Opera performances are for five weekends ending Sunday, October 9th.

The central plot revolves around a beautiful sopranoChristine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius. Christine will be portrayed by Lydia Pusateri. The Phantom is played by Miles Wesley. Raoul, the young Vicomte de Chagny, the Phantom’s rival for Christine’s affections, is portrayed by Kyle Malis. Carlotta Giudicelli, the diva displaced by Christine is played by Jaime Craycroft, and her tenor compatriot, Ubaldo Piangi, is portrayed by Johnny Reed. Doug Scheer and Len Villanueva are the two new owners of the Opera, Firmin and Andre. Madison Eror is Meg Giry, the young ballet student, and her mother, Ballet-mistress Madame Giry is played by Marlise Ahuna.

The Phantom of the Opera opened in the West End in 1986 and on Broadway in 1988.  It is the longest-running musical in Broadway history, the second-longest-running West End musical, and probably the world's most financially successful single entertainment project to date.   The show has been seen in 149 cities in 25 countries, and has played to over 100 million people, but hasn’t been done professionally in Honolulu since 1993.

Phantom of the Opera has gorgeous costumes that capture the imagination, designed by multiple-Po’okela winner Evette Tanouye Allerdings, who just won for last year’s The Velveteen Rabbit.

The challenging score will be conducted by musical director Clarke Bright.  The spectacular and legendary sets and lights are designed by perennial favorite Lloyd “Sandy” Riford.

Tickets are available by phone from the Paliku Theatre Box Office at 235-7310 or online 24/7 at www.HawaiiOnstage.com.  Palikū Theatre is located on the campus of Windward Community College in Kaneohe, at the top of Kea’ahala Road, mauka of Kahekili Highway.
